NoviTec
Industries expands
An existing Franklin industry has opened a new
division.
NoviTec’s Tube Cutting Division is located off Ky. 1008 in south
Franklin in the building that once housed Franklin Hardwoods.
NoviTec Industries President Joe DiGiuseppe said the new operation
cuts stainless steel tubing to precision length for United
Stainless, which has manufacturing plants in Beloit, Wis. and
Selmer, Tenn. The tubing will be used by the automotive industry for
such items as exhaust pipes and catalytic converters. Automakers
which will use the final product include General Motors, Nissan and
Toyota.
DiGiuseppe said the tubing will be sent to the Franklin facility
from United Stainless’ two plants to be cut to specific lengths and
then shipped to a plant in Shelbyville, Tenn. where the tubing is
converted into automotive exhaust parts.
Employment at NoviTec’s Tube Cutting Division will initially be nine
and is expected to reach 25 to 50 within one and a half years. The
pay scale for production line workers will range from $7 to $9 per
hour. Full production is expected by Sept. 1
Each tube cutting machine at the facility will take nine people to
operate – three per shift.
The approximately 36,000-square-foot facility can hold up to 13 of
the tube cutting machines. It’s hoped five to 13 machines will be in
operation within the next 18 months.
Franklin-Simpson Industrial Board Chairman John Raines said he is
“extremely pleased with the opening of NoviTec’s new facility. I
think its great that an existing industry can expand and provide
additional jobs.”
Mayor Jim Arnold echoed Raines’ thoughts, adding “I’m glad to see
another expansion for NoviTec which will mean more jobs. This has
tremendous potential. They (NoviTec) have taken a warehouse that was
being used for nothing and are now using it.”
NoviTec’s other plant on Ky. 1008 employs 36 people.
